About Rick Squires - Director of PiEnergy

Rick currently holds three external directorships, and offers both consultancy and management educational services to the energy sector. With a truly international background - Rick's work has taken him to over 50 countries - he is able to bring cross-cultural understanding to large-scale global projects.

Before setting up PiEnergy, Rick was based in Boston, USA as Senior Vice President of InterGen, an international power company which at the time had over 1000 employees and 16GW of power plants in ten countries. He was responsible for planning and strategy.

Prior to joining InterGen Rick headed the Power Business within Shell Gas and Power, London, and was leader of the team that acquired 50% of InterGen in 1997. His career in Shell spanned over 25 years and included senior management positions in International Oil Trading, Coal Business Development and Marketing. While principally based in London, holding extensive international responsibilities, assignments also took him to live in South Africa and Japan.

Rick holds a First Class Honours Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters Degree in Business Studies. He is a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, the Institute of Directors and also the Energy Institute.

Speaking engagements

A regular speaker at key conferences both in the UK and overseas, Rick's speaking engagements have included All-Energy, Aberdeen, which is the UK's largest renewables event, attracting around 8,000 attendees from over 50 countries. He has also been a speaker at Renewable Energy Finance Forum and Smart Energy, both in London, and at CERA Week in Houston, USA (the annual executive conference organised by Cambridge Energy Research Associates).
